This cache has been archived.

Alpine Reviewer: As I have not received an update from the cache owner, I am archiving this cache to keep it from continually showing up in search lists, and to prevent it from blocking other cache placements. If you (the cache owner) wish to repair/replace the cache sometime in the near future, please contact me, and assuming it meets the guidelines, I will be happy to unarchive it.

Geocache Description:

An important milestone to Las Cruces that gives the city its name.

This was originally placed by by the Marauders as GCHKKH. I am reactivating this cache (with permission) with a brand new log sheet.

The city of Las Cruces is often referred to as the city of the crosses. The most common theory about the name is that a group of travelers in the area was attacked in the 18th century. Crosses were put up in their honor. From that, the name of the area became known as "El Pueblo del Jardín de Las Cruces," later shortened to Las Cruces. The crosses have also been the matter of much debate in recent years, as some individuals feel having crosses on a city logo is a violation of the first amendment, as it supposedly establishes a religion. This is not the view of most Las Cruces residents, however.

Getting to the cache can be difficult- sidewalks may or may not be present, depending on your approach. Please be very careful of the heavy traffic nearby. You'll need to park near the intersection of Solano and Main St., such as Apodaca Park or at fast food restaurant.
