You will need to visit and
collect information in three places before you can calculate the
container's final location:
- a. Cross on the top
of the hill (N39º 30,895 W009º 08,319): notice the date in
roman numbers, which will be value A
- b. Saint Anthony’s
Chapel (N39º 30,852 W009º 08,384): notice the date in the
end of the poem by Francisco Menezes depicted in the exterior to
the left side of the entrance, which will be value
B
- c.
Lighthouse (N39º 30,636 W009º 08,600 - the same
coordinates given/used as start point for the cache): notice the
total number of solar panels assembled close
together (you will need to take a close look), which will be
value C
Now do the following
calculations (unit is 0,001 of minutes in DD MM,MMM
format):
Final
Latitude = Initial Latitude + [(B/C)*2] - 11
Final Longitude = Initial Longitude + (A-B) +
11
A word of
advice/warning: Avoid doing this cache with rainy
weather; the ground gets slippery and it is potentially a big
fall!!

Martinho
The current bay of S.
Martinho is the last vestige of an ancient Golf which, until the
16th century, extended itself inwards to Alfeizerão. It opens to
the ocean through a small mouth, around 180 meters large, between
the hills of Santana, to the South, and the Lighthouse, to the
North (check the photos below). From the top of the belvederes of
Facho and Cruzeiro, near the Chapel of Saint Anthony, it is a
pleasure to take a look at the bay coloured by the typical yellow
fishing boats and by the silvered track of small recreational
ones.
The town, founded by the monks of the Monastery of Alcobaça at the
13th century, goes down in the shape of an amphitheatre from the
hillside to the Dock, in the northern corner of the Beach. Over
recent years it was progressively extended through the Marginal
Avenue to the dunes of Salir. Its ancient houses can be discovered
by climbing the D. Pedro V lane to the scenic spot of José Bento da
Silva Square, or to the Main Church, from the 18th
century.
S. Martinho do Porto has
many possible walking routes, esplanades, pubs and restaurants for
you to discover. The sea is astonishingly quiet and the beach a
paradise for children and nautical sports.
