Geocache Description:

This is a Hash Cache set in Hendre. The theme is to find the caches following hashing signs. All you have to do is find and follow 1" (25mm) round discs alongside public footpaths, bridleways, and quiet country lanes. The trail is a little undulating. In a real hash we follow a flour trail (see below) and start and finish in a pub. For this hash cache, you start and finish at the above coordinates.

Parking (see waypoint) why not pick up GC115W as you are walking straight past it to the starting coordinates.

It has been hard to rate this cache, so feed back would be appreciated. If the responce is good I will set another one, would you want it easier or harder
This should be a good one for the kids, as they could look out for the signs (little round 1" (25mm) discs set at low level attached to stumps and posts) saving the adults bending. But do look at all the signs/discs, or you will miss the cache !!

On these discs, you will see various signs which are explained below:
On On = you are on the correct trail (keep going).
Check = you have come to a junction where the trail could go in more than one direction. So you have to check out all the possible routes - you could be lucky first time!!.
F = you have come on a false trail, so you have to make your way back to the check. Throw a 6 and try again.
On In = is the trail back to the start, after you have found the second cache (On On 2 - GC169JN) which continues along this trail. The On In discs have arrows on them as well .

I have put a reference point in for you. It is approximatly half way round at Big Wood. Do set your GPS to track log when starting.

Nearby caches -
NWWT 1 Cord Y Felin (I'll take the low path) your walking past this one to the start!!
NWWT 1a (You take the high path)

I will bore you with a brief history of the Hash House Harriers in 'On On 2'. If you're half a runner and like a run/drink/sociable crowd, then you're very welcome to join us or any UK/world wide pack. All contacts are on the Internet, eg www.wch3.org (visit link) or e-mail us.
As Scottpa100 (part time hasher) says "Its not the herbal type!!".

Hashing:
Hashers are called "drinkers with a running problem".
Basically hashing is a form of non-competitive cross-country running with the main objective of working up a decent thirst. Great emphasis is placed on the social aspects - particularly the communal boozing session at the aprés-hash. It's a fun activity and not be taken at all seriously

If you have half a mind to join the Hash, that's all it takes. If you have hashed before you will know the format but for the newcomers here's a quick rundown on what happens.
The Hash generally meets at a pub chosen by the HARES and the HOUNDS set off at the appointed hour along a clearly defined trail (blobs of flour) with the front runners calling "ON ON" for the benefit of the slower runners and latecomers catching up.

Every 500 metres or so the trail will end signified by a check mark which may be in the form of a line or a circle - ask the hare before you set out. The frontrunners on reaching the check start searching for the new trail. This can start up to 50 metres from the check in any direction. The time taken by the frontrunners to find the new trail allows the runners at the back (the "social or chat-pack") to catch up thus increasing the chances of everyone reaching the the pub at the end at roughly the same time. The frontrunners will usually find that the cunning hares have laid some FALSE TRAILS in addition to the the real trail - these falsies usually consist of up to 3 blobs followed by an X or an F (again ask!). This ensures that the really fit types, known as FRBs (Front Running *&%$"^%$) will become exhausted more quickly and be forced to join the social pack. Another device used by Hares to achieve the same objective is the LOOP whereby the trail might go round 3 sides of a field allowing the back markers to run across the fourth. Hash runs are usually 4 - 7 miles long and are designed to last 1 - 1½ hours. Revelries in the pub after the run are up to the individual but it has been known for some muddy sweaty hashers to be turned out of the pub at closing time.

On On to the caches, hope you enjoy what we have been doing for years .
