It’s time again for another Campin’ in the ‘Glades! This year should be a lot of fun as we have some great events planned. We plan to get to camp around 8:00pm on Friday evening. Campin’ in the ‘Glades is held at the primitive Bear Island camp ground in the 720 thousand acre Big Cypress National Preserve.

Saturday starts the real fun. At 10:00am will be holding a photography class by a speaker to be announced soon. After the class a photography contest will begin which will last the rest of the day. Prizes will be given for several categories of photos including geocaching, landscape, flora, fauna, and macro. Stay tuned for more details about this contest. After lunch the Geo Activities will begin! The team Geocaching Relay will be the featured event of the day. For this event you will need to form teams of 4. You may either form your teams before the event or we will help you form a team that day. Please post your team name and members as a post as you form them. Each leg of the relay will involve only 1 team member. The topics of the four legs of the relay are SPEED, CAMO, PUZZLES, and TERRAIN. Each member of your team will only complete 1 leg of the relay so all 4 members combined will complete all 4 stages but at separate times. It would behoove your team greatly to form a diverse group which will be able to accomplish all legs of the relay quickly.

During the Geocaching Relay many Geo Activities will be available around the campsite including a kids geo hunt.

At 4:00pm, after the Geocaching Relay is over a camouflage demonstration will be held showing great tips and tricks to camouflage your Geocaching containers.

Campfire will be lit at 7:00 at which time apple cobbler made by the SeaAggies will be served to all followed by the ever popular Chubby Bunny contest!

On Sunday, March 2nd the festivities will move to Fakahatchee Strand State Preserve, “the Amazon of North America”. Many great caches exist in this park including one of the oldest caches in Florida, “Share the Music” and the 5/5 cache, “The Ghost Orchid”. At 10:00am will be meeting for a group swamp walk at the East Main Tram Parking Lot. This is a wonderful time of year to hike in Fakahatchee as the water will be low. Anyone wanting to come will need to wear long pants and shoes that you do not mind getting wet. A hiking stick is recommended as to help you keep your balance and to feel for underwater trips. During the walk we are sure to see many of Florida’s Native Orchids. Fakahatchee is home to famous Ghost Orchid and if we are lucky we just might run across one during the walk!

Friday night there will not be any events planned, but some Geocampers will most likely trickle in throughout the evening. We plan to get to camp around 8:00pm on Friday evening and all are welcome to camp Friday evening as an option.

We hope to see all of you South Florida cachers there as well as other Florida and possibly out of sate cachers!

ANNOUNCEMENT!!
Eliana (nana5tje), Marc (exoticdvm), and us, the SeaAggies, will be going to Bolivia in March to visit with Inti Wara Yassi. They have a constant need of items at the animal refuge but one thing we are asking is that if anyone has some rock climbing/mountaineering quality carabiners to donate, could you please bring them to the event. It would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Watch this page as more detail will be posted as they are available!
