Well folks, this my seventh and final installment in the
Monongahela National Forest, Pheasant Mountain series of caches.
I've had a lot of fun bringing these to you and I hope you've
enjoyed visiting a less known and advertised portion of the
MNF.
My first cache,
Cheat View Cache co-owned with my brother wvhunter, brought you
to a rock outcropping that offered a great view of the Cheat River
watershed in Preston County. I feel it's only fitting that as I
wrap up this series, I attempted to locate an area that offers a
view of the Cheat River valley near, but not at (sorry), its
formation at the confluence of its Shavers and Black Forks at
Parsons.
The only problem is that this time of year it's just a two plus
mile, wildlife viewing coupled with a few scenic vistas, hike and
then a typical 'coalcat climb to a high point. In the months with
no tree cover there will be plenty of views of the surrounding
mountains/valleys. Man O'Day I wish I had a container to place in
April when I first scouted this hide. This can be an impressive
area.
Parking is at the provided coordinates and can easily fit six or
seven vehicles without blocking the gate. Be forewarned that the
locals use this area as their *excess deer parts* dumping ground.
Access is by way of FR859 to FR859B then the bushwhwack to the
cache. This is another mountain bike friendly trek with the
exception of the last 0.20 mile or so.
As always, use proper precautions during hunting season(s). Most
notably the two week buck firearm season that starts Thanksgiving
week.
Please pay attention to your surroundings, enjoy and be
safe.
The cache is a 30 caliber ammo box provided by wvhunter.
