Geocache Description:

The path to cache is located along the Burnt Bridge Greenway trail. However, I have set the terrain to 3 because at the cache location you will need to leave the trail and do some minor bushwhacking. You should wear long pants due to stinging nettles growing nearby. There are no nettles at the cache. Please let me know if they encroach to the area and I will move it. You will be looking for a camouflaged Peanut Butter jar.

Hmm…. no bench here. That is a first. Well, you could bring a lawn chair or if it is a nice day head down to the creek and sit by the tranquil waters. Read the story and then I am sure that you will find the cache.

Foster's Creek Side Cache
In the past caches we have learned a lot of the man known only as Foster. Today we are going to learn all about crawdad fishing. This is Foster’s favorite pastime.

Crawdad fishing is an art form. There are three basic ways to catching them. The first is to put on a pair of hip boots and gloves, grab a bucket and then head on in the water. The second way is to use the net and stick method. Basically you put the net behind the crawdad. Crawdads can only swim backwards and they only swim to escape. So use the stick to prod them and they will swim right into the waiting net. The last and probably the most challenging way to fish is to use a line and bait. No need for a hook. Crawdads are slow moving creatures so finding food is rare for them. When they do they will defend it with their lives. You can literally pull a crawdad out of the creek if he has latched on to food. Then it is just a matter of dropping the catch into your waiting bucket. Don’t get pinched. The best bait to use is raw bacon. No one knows why, but they just love the stuff. Now on to Foster’s Story.

You are sitting at Foster’s secret crawdad fishing spot. Once I sat right here with Foster and told me this incredible tale. Here is what he told me in his own words:

Well sir, dem crawdads are downright magical. I am here to tell ya. One time I was right here and I caught my first one of the day. He was about three inches and was a real devil of a pincher. A few minutes later I catch a second one and that got me to thinkin’. Why don’t I just boil them up right here? So, I started me a fire and set my catchin’ pot on it to boil. I caught two more straight away and could just taste my snack. It was then I hear a big doings coming from downstream. I did not pay it no mind and set back to fishing. Then out of water comes the biggest dang crawdad you ever saw. Must have been two feet long and had pinchers to match. Well sir, he came straight at me and I jumped back. Just at the last second he surged at my catchin’ pot and knocked it right over. All the crawdads inside made straight to the creek and were gone. Well sir, that big fella turned and gave a look that told me I best not eat no crawdads today. True story…. I am here to tell ya.
