Kaunas Fortress (Lithuanian: Kauno tvirtove) is the remains of a fortress complex in Kaunas, Lithuania.

IV FORTAS
Išsidesciusi Nemuno slenio viršutineje terasoje, prie Linksmes upelio ištaku, forto teritorija tankiai apaugusi neaukštais želdiniais, kurie kartu su forto aplinkoje auganciais dideliais medžiais (tarp ju ir pagal perimetra išlikusios topoliu eiles) formuoja stambiu medžiu masyva dominuojanti placioje teritorijoje, reikšminga kraštovaizdžio akcenta. Savo turiu teritorija susišaukia ir su tolimesniais žaliuojanciais Nemuno šlaitais, Napoleono kalnu. Salygojama vakarineje dalyje tekancio Linksmes upelio, asimetrines plano strukturos, netaisyklingo keturkampio formos forto teritorija susilieja su gamtiniu karkasu. Nors reljefas išlikes neblogai, taciau slepiasi po želdiniu rubu. Reikšmingas kraštovaizdžio suvokimui specialiai tvirtoves reikmems nutiestas ir plastiškai nuvingiuojantis kelias (dabar Plytines g.). Šiaurineje puseje išlike ivažiavimo i forto teritorija vartai, stipriai apgriauti, bet vis dar svarbus kraštovaizdžio akcentas. Perspektyvoje kareiviniu kompleksas baigiasi gynybinio griovio siena, horizontalia kompozicija ir vienoje ir kitoje puseje uždaro pagal perimetra užsodintu topoliu šydas - vertingas kraštovaizdžio akcentas.

IV FORT
Situated on the top terrace of the valley of Nemunas, next to the source of the stream Linksmes, the territory of the fort is densely overgrown by short sprouts, which along with the large trees that grow in the fort’s surrounding, form array of large trees dominating in a wide area, which is a significant accent of the landscape. With its size, the territory connects with the more distant verdant slopes of Nemunas and the Napoleon Hill. Conditioned by the Linksme stream, streaming on the western side, the asymmetric plan structure, the irregular quadrangle shaped territory of the fort merges with the natural carcass. Even though the relief has lasted quite well, it is hidden under a blanket of sprouts. Significant to the perception of the landscape is the windy road (currently the Plytines Street) specially built for the needs of the fort. The fort’s entrance gates have survived on the north side, heavily damaged, but still an important accent of the landscape. In the perspective, the military complex ends with the wall of the defensive fosse; the horizontal arrangement on both sides is closed by a shield of trees, planted in accordance to the perimeter. It is a valuable accent of the landscape.

IT'S HIGHLY RECOMMENDED TO BRING A FLASH LIGHT!!!
From this entrance you can find a path straight to the parking place, second floor, below ground and a very long corridor in the outer wall, just don't be lazy. There are bats everywhere :)
