This geocache has been placed with permission of Central
Scotland Forest Trust.
Recommended parking for accessing the cache is from the car park
just off Fraser Avenue in the Kirkton Campus Estate. From this
point you will also pass
Troll Under the Bridge.
The main path follows the course of the River Almond, and you can
continue to the edge of the village of Seafield. At the highest
point, you can see the “Five Sisters”, five oil shale bings, which
are a famous local landmark, reminding us of the area’s industrial
past.
There are new areas of woodland, which include Ash, Hawthorn and
Birch, as well as an older Sitka plantation woodland. The island in
the middle of the pond has well-established Willow and Alder and
the surrounding grassland and mixed woodland provides a great
habitat for butterflies and bumble bees. Roe deer, foxes, rabbits
and hares may also be seen here.
This cache is located towards the southern end of the site, but
parking is difficult here and not recommended. The cache is a
medium-sized plastic box located just a short distance from a main
path.
This cache is one in a series in the Central Scotland Forest,
