Geocache Description:

THE CACHE IS NOT AT THE LISTED COORDINATES!

Since so many folks have enjoyed Mystery of the Seaside Prom, I decided to create a second one.  For variety, this one works in a somewhat different way.

To solve the puzzle, visit the 8 locations listed below.  Each location is a well-known Seaside attraction, so this will provide an excellent opportunity to see the town.  At each site, look around for one of the 8 photos included in this listing.  Each of the 8 photos is no more than 275 feet from one of the sites you will be visiting.  The photos are in a random order.

When you locate the scene in one of the photos, enter the number associated with the photo in the blank provided with each site description.  This will provide you with the coordinates of the cache.

Following are the sites to visit, including GPS coordinates.  Each site has also been entered as a waypoint for the cache.  The locations are listed more or less in order from south to north:

Site 1:  The Salt Works

N    45 59.065

W 123 55.913

This site is part of the Lewis and Clark National Historic Park.  Members of the Expedition boiled water at this site to obtain much-needed salt.

Enter the number associated with the photo you find within 275 feet of this site.

This will provide digit "A" in the final coordinates.

Photo number: ____ (A)

Site 2:  The Beach!

N    45 59.195

W 123 55.971

Without a doubt, the main attraction in Seaside is the beach.  The Seaside beach stretches uninterrupted from Tillamook Head on the south end to the Necanicum River on the north.

Site 4:  Kites!

Once you have noted the required numbers in the blanks above, build the coordinates for the final cache using the letters indicated as follows:

N  45 5A.BCD

W 123 5E.FGH

You can locate the sites in any order, but visiting Site 8 (Skatepark) last may be helpful since it is closest to the cache.

Solving the puzzle makes for a great bike ride!  Here are the approximate travel distances:

From the posted coordinates to Site 1:  1/2 mile

Travel to all 8 sites:  3 miles

From Site 8 to the final:  1/2 mile

There is no need to go inside any buildings.  All of the photo sites and the cache are outside.

A short woodland walk of about 1/5 mile is required to reach the cache.  There is no need to bushwhack.  Depending on the direction of your approach, you may need to continue on past where your GPS receiver is taking you until you come to a path leading down.  Note:  Since the cache was placed, signs have been erected in the area stating that it is "Private Property" and "No Loitering".  I have walked through many times and never had a problem.  Since the sign does not specifically say to keep out, I have decided not to move the cache yet.

If you need some help, send me an email and I will be glad to assist.

If you enjoyed this cache, please check out this list of Photo Caches.

Have fun!
