Geocache Description:

Small secure container with log. BYOP.

This cache replaces the satirical cache Gateway to the Carrizo Plain!!! in order to properly recognize my newfound respect for anything associated with the Carrizo Plain.

In March of 2009 I was in the middle of a 72 consecutive days caching streak and we didn't have our son yet, so I had the time to get new caches and plant new caches. The thing about the Carrizo Plain in March is it is absolutely beautiful; great scenery and great weather. At the time, there were hardly any caches in the Carrizo Plain.

After about four trips to the Carrizo Plain over two months, I had planted 39 caches across this wonderous beauty. I absolutely loved planting and finding caches in the Carrizo Plain. Then summer was upon us and I haven't returned since.

However, with the end of summer and a retun to cooler weather, I will once again roam out to the Carrizo Plain where I am free to hike, explore, and plant caches again. I can return to the times of abandoning my wife, and now my son, to wander about aimlessly through the fields and mountains of the Carrizo Plain in search of Geocaching locations.

Now I understand why the Taft Chamber of Commerce is trying so hard to promote Taft as the Gateway to the Carrizo Plain!!!. It really is an awesome place to visit. Being from Taft and not venturing out there much over my lifetime, I thought it was a vast wasteland of brush and dirt (my wife still holds on to this vision of the Carrizo Plain). Now I fully appreciate the Carrizo Plain for its awesomeness and in no way can I allow a cache to mock its glorious name.
