Geocache Description:

Sofala is a village beside the Turon River north of Bathurst. It came about as a direct result of the goldrush in 1851. Tousands of people had set up mining operations in the valley and both the Royal Hotel and a General Store were built in 1851 to handle the increased demand. Sofala has been reported to be the oldest surviving gold rush town in Australia.

This cache is located near the monument erected to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Proclamation of the town on the 14th of August 1851.
Take time to look at the relatively new notice board nearby.
