Geocache Description:

You are looking for the Grid Reference 555555 (UTM - WGS84), but it actually shows up as GR554553 on the Hallidays Point 1:25,000; 9443-4-N; (2nd Ed.) which is based on Aus Geo ’66 (Australian Geodetic Datum 1966). Eastings (Longitudinal coord) are given before the Northings (Latitudinal coord).

All topographical maps are divided into a grid so that a geographical feature can be given a coordinate on a flat map, and it is specific to that spot. (A Grid Reference gives the bushwalker a 100m x 100m square of bush to look in; so it is just as well we have the GPSr to narrow things down a bit.) The grid lines are generally placed one kilometre apart, and a useful article can be found in Wikipedia if the most you’ve used is street references: (visit link)

This cache and subsequent ones with the MK-RGR or LJ-RGR name are commemorating a solo bushwalk I did in 1984, walking cross-country from Diamond Beach, NSW right through to the Watagan State Forest and Martinsville. ('MK' and 'LJ' specify a 100km square of grids; RGR=Repeating Grid Reference.) My sister dropped me off here, and the rest of the ~200km trip was on foot; or lilo, to cross various rivers. The first day was coming up from Sydney, then walking down to Failford (Willow Point Rd), where a couple of locals put me up for the night before rowing me over the Wallamba River.

For those members of Geocaching Australia, don't forget the locationless cache, GA1520, (visit link)
You will need to photograph your GPSr with the UTM coordinates showing at the cache site.

Access is via Old Soldiers Rd. Please don’t obstruct private property access when parking.
* The cache has the permission of the land owners, but please don't abuse their hospitality. * (If you see the owners introduce yourself, and ask if it is OKAY to walk down their fenceline for what you want to find)
