From 12pm — Sunday 28th March 2010

My calendar tells me two facts about 28th March 2010.

For religious types, it is Palm Sunday; it is also the first day of British Summer Time, which although it means that you get an hour less in bed, is cause for celebration in itself, because it means that light evenings and (hopefully) better weather are here.

More important than these two facts, it is also my birthday!

To be precise, it is my 30th birthday, so I decided that this would be the ideal opportunity to set my first Event Cache and whether you're an old hand or new to the game, I would be delighted if you could join me to celebrate with a Sunday lunch. Fittingly, this is also the 30th cache that I have placed!

Roast Pork, Beef or Turkey, or Vegetable Wellington are available for £7.99 each, and you can add up to two kid's (under-11s) meals to your order for just £1 each.

There is also a full main menu available with starters and desserts if you're feeling extra hungry.

I have provisionally booked 30 for food, but that can be increased if more people want to come. We're booked in for two hours, which should be plenty of time to eat, drink, chat and share trackables, but if there are still people around afterwards then we can always retire to the bar.

The area that I have reserved is now full. We will be sat in three dining rooms and an area that links the rooms together in the back right of the pub - if you enter from the car park turn right at the bar then left to find us. If you have not already logged but would still like to come along then you may be able to get a meal in another part of the pub. You are, of course, welcome to join us for a drink.

The pub takes its name from the area of Warrington in which it sits. Winwick Quay was formally a quay on the old Sankey Canal and even had its own railway station at one time. You can explore the remains of the canal if you follow the scenic route from Warrington town centre (see below). There is even a Premier Inn around the back of the pub if you fancy staying overnight.

There will be a quiz and a raffle at the event (both in aid of the 2012 Mega Event, to be held in North West England) with some great prizes up for grabs.

Getting There

By car: From the north, exit the M6 at J22 and follow the Winwick Link Road to the A49.
From the south, exit the M6 at J21a and join the M62 westbound then follow the directions below.
From the east/west, exit the M62 at J9, follow the A49 south (signposted Warrington) until the first island then double back to the pub.
The pub has its own car park with plenty of spaces.

By train: Trains from the north and south on the WCML arrive at Warrington Bank Quay.
Trains from Liverpool, Manchester, Yorkshire and the east arrive at Warrington Central.
Both are within easy walking distance of the bus interchange, or if you're feeling energetic you can walk to the pub - it's around two miles straight up Winwick Road (A49). If you are walking, I highly recommend taking the scenic route though Sankey Valley Park (see below).

By bus: From Warrington #19 (to Leigh) and #420 (to Earlestown) both stop close to the pub on Winwick Road. Ask for the Mill Lane stop. The journey time is less than 10 minutes.
Alternatively, #20 and #21 both stop a little further from the pub, ask for Chiltern Road. From here it is a little over a 5 minute walk to the pub.
All buses are operated by Warrington Borough Transport.

Scenic route from Warrington: If you are walking to or from the pub from the town centre, you can avoid the busy A49 and instead opt for Sankey Valley Park, taking in nine caches along the way. The route from the centre to the pub via these caches is around 4 miles and should take around 2½ hours to complete including finding the following caches:
GCGJM6 Ghost of the White Lady
GC1MRN9 Warrington's Parks 2: Sankey Valley Park
GC10V24 The Valley - Gulliver's (#3)
GC16J1K The Valley - Scooby
GC16J1Q The Valley - Elder Cache
GC16J1X The Valley - Fiveways
GC16J20 The Valley - What is it?
GC10V25 The Valley - The Lock (#4)
GC16J25 The Valley - Dry Dock
If you would like more details of the route please email me.
