As everyone knows by now, the lid to the APE cache - aka
Mission 9: Tunnel of Light - was stolen Thursday, July 1, right
before the
Going APE event and GeoWoodstock
VIII. Thanks to the many visitors, we narrowed the window to
11:00 am - 1:00 pm, and some people thought they saw the culprit.
However, the lid has not returned, and with it went the gold
finder's version of the original APE coin, which
Caliber had donated and riveted to the lid.
Cache owner Moun10Bike has acquired a new lid that fits, and
it's been painted and stenciled to match the original. Jcar has
donated a silver version of the original APE coin, WSGA donated a
gold GW version of the new APE
coin, and Moun10Bike added one of his Version 4 coins. The
three coins are riveted to the lid so they can be discovered by
future visitors to the APE cache.
Let's celebrate Lid Reattachment
Day with breakfast at the trailhead. We can admire the
replacement lid, discover the coins, and contribute fresh swag
before Moun10Bike heads up for a little cache maintenance.
Time: 9:00 am
Place: Annette Lake trailhead (posted
coordinates)
Bring your own snacks and beverages, as well as something to contribute to the cache. The
cache swag is in sad shape, and some contents were apparently
stolen, so this is our chance to spruce it up again!
Afterward, those who are interested can hike with Moun10Bike to
the cache, and then perhaps head over to Twede's in North Bend for a little
brunch/lunch.
Note: You need a Northwest Forest day pass or
annual
pass to park at this trailhead.
This event is sponsored by a member of the Washington
State Geocaching Association. If you are a geocacher in the state
