Geocache Description:

Easy cache with nearby parks. Be careful crossing the road.

Unwins Bridge
Unwins bridge across the Cooks River was first built in 1836 using convict labour.
Frederick Wright Unwin, a Sydney Solicitor, built a house on the south side of the river but kept his horses on the north side. He needed a crossing.

Nearby you can see Tempe Railway Station. The station opened in 1884 and Tempe became a popular resort with large crowds attracted to Cooks River for swimming and boating.
The bridge was rebuilt in 1889 to cope with the extra traffic.

To think that both bridges were built without the aid of technology (such as electricity.) I'm pretty sure you can still see some convict work in the sandstone retaining walls underneath.
