Lidlington has a history dating back to 1086 and in 1247 historical records document the erection of gallows to deal with the lawless. In the 19th Century it became part of the Woburn Estate.
If you walk around the churchyard you will see the position of the "old" St. Margaret's church, now railed off, which in 1886 was in danger of collapse because of land slippage. The 9th Duke of Bedford paid for the building of a new church. This church still survives and can be seen on the corner of Church Street and The Lane but it is no longer used for worship having closed on 31st January 2009.
The steep hill which leads up to the main Woburn Road is believed to be ‘Bunyan’s Hill’. When preaching in Millbrook he would ride his pony down the hill into Lidlington, but never up.
There are some nice walks in the woods between Lidlington and Millbrook offering some good views, but the paths can be steep in places.
At the given location you should find a metal bench with a plaque on it.
There are 4 dates on the plaque:
13.A.30 - 10.E.F7
CB.11.55 - 11.D.77
To find the final cache leave the cemetery via the path that runs south west and onto the public footpath. The cache can then be found at:
N 52 02.ABC
W000 33.DEF
The cache is a small camouflaged 180ml Lock&Lock tub which contains just a logbook and pencil, but should be big enough to take smaller travel bugs and coins.
If anybody would like to expand to this series please do, I would just ask that you could let Sadexploration know first so he can keep track of the Church numbers and names to avoid duplication.
