Geocache Description:

Adventure of Acherontas River (= Springs of Acheron)

Near Gliki up the river Acheron there is a centre of adventure tourism: Rafting, Horse & Donkey Riding, Flying Fox, River Trekking, ... .
But you will have another adventure: hiking, wading and swimming through the gorge in order to find the cache; so the best possible time for seeking this cache is during the summer. You can park your cachevehicle at N39°19.660’, E20°37.110’.

First you must wade and swim through the gorge until you arrive at the bridge.

Near the fork of the river, you will find a ruin; don’t go inside: it’s misused as a toilet (restroom).
The cache is hidden in the wall outside the ruin (Spoiler). The cachebox contains 2 logbooks (= enough until my next holiday in Parga) and a pencil.
If this adventure is not enough, you can wade/swim up a hard trail through the LEFT arm of the river (COLD water) or take the RIGHT arm of the river (WARM water), which is very easy for hiking/wading.
A gravel bank to relax: N39° 20.050', E20° 38.300'

For the way back, you can walk the hiking trail (beginning at the bridge) a “little bit higher” straight to a cache by Teokar: Acherontas River
... or you begin the hike at N39°19.615’, E20°37.475’ up to N39°19.600’, E20°37.405’ and the path will bring you to the caches.
Historical information: The Acheron River is the road to the underworld - the dark realm of the god Pluto or Hades. This river got its name from the word grief - sadness, Acheron - no joy. In ancient times, it was believed that the Acheron is the passage for the souls of the dead. Hermes delivered the souls to Charon for arriving in the kingdom of Hades.

Happy caching and have fun

PS for Greek Cachers: I miss a cache in honor of the brave people (women) of Souli near their village e.g. Castle Kiafas (N39°20.193’, E20°39.095’).
