A series of caches to take you on one of our favourite walks. We do it from Newton Mearns, through Titwood through the two farms, past the clay pigeon range and down to the Devil's Plantation (GC2HFNG) over Bonnyton Moor. Although it's a trek you can pick up some cracking caches en route including Cup Marked Cache (GC3H2KC), Rudolph Hess (GC10262) and Burnhouse Bend (GC11BW6).
Anyhoo, enough about the long walk. You want to do the cache trail that picks up the most number of caches per trudged kilometer. The walk starts at the parking waypoint near to the Glasgow South Orbital and passes through Blackhouse and North Moorhouse farms before turning to return over the moor towards our "First To.......Use Your Imagination" cache (GC2BJY7) in Long Wood. Once you reach Long Wood we reckon you can turn North West and drop back down to the road just East of Blackhouse Farm and make your way back to your carriage. The total walk is just over 4 miles but will test your ankles.
Once you get past Blackhouse Farm on this circuit the tracks are faint and muddy, so boots are essential during all but the driest of conditions. The path often lies next to dry stane walls. Please note that NO CACHES ARE PLACED WITHIN DRY STANE WALLS AND NO STONES MUST BE MOVED DURING YOUR SEARCHING. It is possible to go through what appears to be the garden of Blackhouse Farm. This is the marked right of way. However, it feels a bit weird and you may prefer to use the GTBBF and SOTP waypoints (although it will be harder work) and bypass the farm buildings. If you do go through Blackhouse farm itself, please be quiet and don't visit after dark. Go through the main gate, stick to the left of the barn and carry on straight ahead to a small stile over the fence (waypoint provided). The footpath is then well signposted.
