Geocache Description:

The 6th and final installment of the Cape Caching Challenges (hidden by me)... find a cache on each of the peaks towering over the Cape Town City Bowl

Cape Town City Bowl

The cache is at the listed coordinates.

Please read the logging requirements very carefully before logging the cache.

The City Bowl

Cape Town is rated as one of the most iconic cities in the world - largely due to the mountains towering over it forming what the locals call the city bowl; a natural amphitheatre-shaped area bordered by Table Bay and defined by the mountains of Signal Hill, Lion's Head, Table Mountain and Devil's Peak. We are incredibly lucky to have this amazing nature on our doorstep yet many Capetonians have never been to the top of Table Mountain let alone the other peaks surrounding the city bowl. This cache challenges you to exclude yourself from those masses and to get up on top of those mountains.

The Challenge

The challenge is simple... Find and log the highest active cache on each of the peaks surrounding the City Bowl: Devils Peak, Table Mountain, Lions Head & Signal Hill. For the purposes of this cache the Google 30m elevation data for the cache will be used as the benchmark to judge this criteria. Which means, currently the highest active (traditional) caches on each of the 4 peaks are as follows:

Should one of these caches become disabled/and or archived then you will need to find the next highest cache on the peak. Please also let me know and I will update the listing accordingly. When logging, please provide evidence of your qualification. The easiest way to do this is to make use of the challenge checker from Project-GC (see below) to verify if you qualify or not...

PGC Checker

If you'd like to work it out on your own, you will need to obtain the elevation of the caches as this is not standard geocaching.com data. To do so, run the Elevation macro against your GSAK database (either Found or Unfound). You can also add the Elevation column to your GSAK view to make it easily visible by clicking View->Add/Remove Columns... and then making sure that the Elevation checkbox is checked.

Please note: For the hard-core, if you are up to the challenge, this cache can be completed in 1 day without the use of the cable car... If you decide to take this route, feel free to find this cache and sign the log on your way past. However, you may only log this cache as Found on the website once you have completed your mission.

The Final

Final cache is a 1l container located at a viewpoint just off the main path between Maclears Beacon and the Table Mountain cableway station. It also happens to be on route for those hardcore folks that want to do the 4 peaks in 1 day (see above).

The cache site happens to be situated at one of the best platforms I've come across on the mountain on which to practice your "Myburghian Leap". So while you're there, why not have a bit of fun... and don't forget to post your Myburghian Leap photo in your log.

Rules

To clarify the specifications above, there are a couple simple rules:

  • All finds on the specified caches prior to the listing of this cache do count.
  • Generally accepted rules, guidelines and conditions for logging a cache find apply. These must be caches listed on Geocaching.com that you have personally (physically) found and logged (signed cache logbook) yourself!
  • No Found logs on caches that you own will be allowed. If you own one of the current highest caches then you must find the 2nd highest cache on that peak.
  • This cache does NOT, and will never, count towards this challenge (just in case by some strange circumstance it becomes the highest cache on Table Mountain).

If you have any questions, either post them on the cache listing as a note or send me a message and I will reply asap.

FTF honours go to AndyT1 and Paddawan. Congrats!
