Geocache Description:

Because Wherigo turns out to be virtually impossible with most GPS devices (particularly some later models) a Multi-cache version is added below.

a) Wherigo version:

The Centenary Lakes give you a very divers view of lowland nature and include quite a few exotic plants and animals.
The total walking distance is about 1.5 km.
To do this cache you need either a GPS-enabled smart phone * with a Wherigo application or a GPS device ** with the facility to download Wherigo cartridges. ***
Spare batteries are advisable.
You can download the cartridge "Centenary Lakes" from

Wherigo.com.
To note down coordinates on your tour a pen and a sheet of paper would be convenient.
Happy Hunting!
Please, BYO pen to log!

*) GPS-enabled smart phones are usually very inaccurate. Our device showed an "accuracy" from 10m up to some 250m! Therefore occasionally the zones got mixed up which made it a bit of a challenge. However, perseverance will pay off.
**) Unfortunately you cannot play the game properly with every Wherigo-enabled GPS device. Just try!
***) If you have problems with the download just write me an email and I can send you the proper file for your specific device.

b) Multi-cache Version:

Go from the parking on the bitumen walkway until you find a scrub hen mound on your right.
Can you see some of these big birds in action?
From the scrub hen mound head for approximately 230 m into about 230° as the scrub hen flies.
Look around, you will see very interesting epiphytes. They are so called ant plants and host ants and an endangered species of butterflies. From the plant that is on the photo of the cache listing continue for another 88 m direct line into 338° (no, you will not need your swimmers). On your way over the bridge you will see a sign with blue letters. Divide the number of letters of either the first or fourth or last word by two to get the third last digit of the South co-ordinates of the FINAL adjacent to Macnamara St.
Having done a long way round of about 240 big steps* (the mentioned 88 m direct line into 338°) you will get to a pedestrian bridge.
Here you will find some information about estuarine life in the mangroves.
According to the board, which of the following animals is most likely not to be spotted here at the water’s edge:
Bandicoot?
Fiddler Crab?
The number of letters represent the very last digit of the South co-ordinates of the FINAL adjacent to nearby Macnamara St.
Now continue the path for twenty three times the number of letters in metres as the croc swims if you take the name of the easily spotted animal.
From that point you will be able to watch the flow of the creek. Is it flowing to the East or West? What does it mean? High or low tide coming?
The first letter of the name of the structure you may be on now is taken as a number and represents the second last digit of the South co-ordinates of the FINAL adjacent to nearby Macnamara St.
If you return to your vehicle now you may drive to nearby Macnamara St to find the FINAL.

Happy Hunting!

*) One big step equals roughly one metre.

(Control check for the final South co-ordinates on the sign about mangroves you pass: Take the ahzore bs yrggref bs gur guvegrragu - sbhegu - svefg jbeq va gur svefg cnentencu bs gur text for digits.)
