Geocache Description:

Traditional Cache with a view that goes for miles beside an observatory where the view goes for 78 million kilometres (to Mars!).

Be cautious of cliffs near the cache which mean this is not really suitable for young kids.

Enter from the top of the block; passing the preschool and down between the Scout Hall and the Observatory.

The Cache is in a park at the top of the hill at Green Point. Tucked down below the Scout Hall and the Green Point Observatory this spot has what a real estate agent would call "Commanding District Views" over the St George's River. With views of Como Bridge, Neverfail Bay (and Buckleberry Ferry) , over to Aladdin's Cave and down the St George's River, it's a perfect vantage point over the river (Almost equalling Oystopit! )

Legends of the significance of this place abound. It is thought to have been the vantage point from which Captain MiHearties would spy passing watercraft and run down and attack them; often leaving nothing but a Kayak and a Waterproof GPS bobbing in the waves. The colonial government would not stand for this behaviour and installed a barracks on the spot. It was only after the deaths of dozens of unsuspecting junior officers that this strategy was abandoned and a policy of appeasement was introduced whereupon local politicians and estate agents were sacrificed to Captain MiHearties on a monthly basis. This building was later converted into a scout hall and now serves as the First Oyster Bay Scout Hall.  The ghosts of the dead are though to roam this place at night and it is not recommended for night caching for this reason.

The Observatory at Green Point is operated by the Sutherland Astronomical Society. They have regular open days when you can in fact see Mars through their Telescope. The origins of star gazing at this point date further back than the Society or even Captain MiHearties' presence.  It is said that during the great tribal wars of the early 19th century this was a key lookout point for the local families of the Shark Clan. Across the river the Dragon Clan would camp out aswell and taunt the Shark Clan by noisily sharing their sleeping arrangements with their womenfolk. An innovative shark clansman devised a system of smooth stones which when aligned correctly and wet with water would magnify the view across the river. Allowing them a more detailed view of the exotic Dragon Clan women which were a welcome alternative to the monocultural and often self-obsessed Shark Women. Quite by accident this innovator had only one hand on the aparatus and pointed it upwards; suddenly discovering the beauties of the moon and thenceforth deciding to focus on Celestial Views and forgetting the Dragon Clan and their rivalry.

This is thought to have brought peace to the Southern areas of Sydney thenceforth; only occassionally resurrected during the Cold War and occasional Rugby League matches.

The cache is a 900ml Sistema Container. I've left in a few swaps and an unactivated trackable gift for the FTF. Captain MiHearties  is also commemorated with a trackable in this cache.

Congrats to Rats&Brats for FTF
