Geocache Description:

The Four Corners of New Zealand Challenge

This is a challenge cache. It can be found at the posted coords, but to be able to find it, you must first complete the challenge.

The Four Corners Challenge:

You need to find one of the two Northern Most, Eastern Most, Southern Most, and Western Most traditional caches (hencefore refered to as corner caches) of either the North or South Island, North and South Island combined, or New Zealand overall.

Half the caches (ie, two) must be THE corner -most. This means that for two of these directions, you can have found the second most (East, North, South, West) geocache, and for the other two you have to find THE most east, south, west, north traditional cache. This is incase the cache is missing, or extremely difficult to get to. (Or if you visit the location, and a new cache is subsequently placed). Just to save you a bit of petrol and nerves :)

ie. Steps to comeplete challenge:
1. Choose an option for which four corners you will visit. North Island, South Island, Mainland NZ, or NZ including smaller islands. (Details of required caches below)
2. Visit all four corners of your chosen land. Find one of the two most corner caches of that land. You can find others too, but to be able to log a find, you need to complete a whole series. (ie. You could find Cape Reinga, and then all four South Island corners, and your South Island finds would be your qualifying ones.)
3. Ensure that at least two of your corner caches are the corner-MOST. The other two can be the cornermost, or second corner most. (Further explanation in extra info)
4. Post a qualifying note with which your chosen land was, and which your qualifying caches were.
5. Find the cache!! :)

Extra Info:
1. You can have found the caches at any point in your life, but they must be the most (East, North, South, West) at the time of you posting a qualifying note, or finding the physical cache. So you may have already qualified! Once you post a qualifying note, you have until whenever to find the physical cache. But if you don't post a note, your finds still need to be accurate of the (East, North, South, West - ernmost) cache at the time of you making the find. (ie. Posting a note is not neccessary, but will save you extra trips incase new caches are subsequently placed).
2. In your qualifying note, write which of the lands you chose to sail to the corners of, and which 4 caches you are using to qualify.
3. If you own one of the corner caches, then ignore that one in terms of your qualifying finds. eg. If I owned the Northernmost traditional cache of NZ, I would have to use the Northernmost/ Second Northernmost traditional cache that I don't own as my qualifying find. Same with Premium Member Only caches. If you're not a premium member, ignore these as corners, and use the next most East/South/West/North.
4. Two of the caches have to be the most extreme corner caches, and two can be the second most. eg. If I only find the second most Western and Eastern cache of the South Island, I then have to find the Northern Most and Southern Most to qualify.

Example of Qualification:
  • Second most Northern and Southern North Island Geocache, and Western and Easternmost traditional NI cache. - Qualifies
  • Second most Western Geocache of your land, and then Southern, Eastern and Northern most of your chosen land. - Qualifies
  • Second most Western, Northern, Southern Geocache of your land, and then Eastern most of your chosen land. - Doesn't qualify. Only one of the four is THE most corner cache. You need to have at least two that are THE most corner cache.

Good luck on your journeys. Once you get to finding the final, it shouldn't be too tough. Just a bit of flax bashing may be involved. But the final is large enough, and not camo covered.
If anyone finds a cache on any other NZ soil that you think is more North/South/East/West and should count to the challenge, send an email or post a note :)
And photos of your caching team at the corners would be cool, but are definitely not required! :)
There is also a tiny prize in the cache for the FTF :)

And just to show that the CO has been to all four corners of the North Island... and they all have lighthouses...
