Geocache Description:

The listed coords place you at what used to be the terminus of the Tram line for 78 years until Mike came along...

Note that the final location has moved as of March 2022, see below for updates.

Mike Rann was premier of SA for 9 years from 2002 to 2011. In those 9 years his one major contribution to the state was the Glenelg tram line. In 2002 it ran from Glenelg to Victoria Square and was operated by 70 year old 1929 H class trams on an ageing track. Mike made numerous improvements to the line over his 9 years as premier.

  • In mid 2005 the track was closed for 2 months and the rail and sleepers were replaced.
  • In late 2005/early 2006 new Flexity class trams were introduced to the line.
  • In 2007 an the line was extended from Victoria Square to what is now the City West stop.
  • In late 2009 the South Rd tram overpass was built.
  • Also, in late 2009 and early 2010 the line was extended to the current terminus at the Entertainment Center.
  • Six new Citadis class trams were also introduced at this time.

It a puzzle where you have to decipher hints to the correct tram stop and then go there. It will take you a while. Having a device that can save your progress is a must.
I can all be done by tram...

This is my first attempt at a Wherigo so hopefully it all works correctly. If you think something may be wrong please contact me!

Good luck!

Some updates as of 2021
There have been some changes to the tram network since this cache was created in 2013. The wherigo has not been changed so you will need to think about how it was in 2013 when working out the hints to stations. Since 2013 the extensions to Botanic Gardens and Festival Plaza have been built, which includes the University and Art Gallery stops, so none of these are included in the whergio. The stop that is now called Royal Adelaide Hospital used to be called West Terrace (and the hint relates to the West Terrace name). One of the hints is for the "narrowest tram stop" which has since been renovated and rebuilt so that it is no longer narrow. One of the hints references a multi cache that has since been archived.

As of 2022 the final location as moved!
The wherigo has not been changed so you will need to make the following corrections to the coordinates the wherigo give you. Add 0.066 to the south minutes. Subtract 0.131 from the east minutes. Alternatively, the Geochecker below will give you the new final location if the coordinates from the wherigo are entered into it.
