Geocache Description:

This cache is part of the plantigrade series. They are designed to be completed in conjunction with the multi-cache Plantigrade but it is cool if you just want to do this one.

The cache is a simple bison tube.

A nice walk in to this cache.

This area was the sight of a number of gold rushes during the 1850s. Because gold is quite heavy, it usually finds it's way to the lowest point possible. In areas like this, that place is the bed of a creek. The most amount of gold is usually found at the deepest part of a creek, usually a few feet below the creek bed.

It was usual practice to divert a creek for a few hundred meters so that the old creek bed was easily accessed. You can see here what was the old creek that used to wind it's way through this area. Not far away you can see how the creek was diverted down a straight section, which has now become the new course of the creek

Be aware, there are abandoned mine shafts in this area! Watch out for snakes. Do not attempt on days of extreme bushfire risk. Be aware, it is slippery in the mud!
