Geocache Description:

This cache is placed here with permission from the owners of the Gunyah Hotel.... The hotel has spectacular views of Lake Macquarie.

Bahtahbah 1826 This area of land marks portion of a 10,000 acre land grant made in 1826 to the London Missionary Society for an Aboriginal Mission. This is the first recorded Free Settlement in the Lake Macquarie region. 'Bahtahbah' meaning 'Hill by the Lake' was the given name by the Aborigines to the mission house. In the later half of the 19th century, James Hannell built a residence south of the mission house site and called it 'Gunyah'. The residence later became part of a hotel and was demolished in 1971 when the hotel was rebuilt. A plaque has been erected by Tooth & Co. Limited for Lake Macquarie and District Historical Society and is located on the eastern external wall facing the Pacific Hwy.
The cache is a camo M&M's container which holds a log and pencil.
