The Harrietville 5 - The Letterbox Letterbox Hybrid

The Harrietville 5 is a series of 5 caches, each of a different type. One Traditional, One Multi Cache, One Unknown, One Letterbox and One Earthcache. The town of Harrietville was chosen as it is one of my favourite little towns and I noticed that it did not have a cache placed in it at the time.



This is the Letterbox Cache. The cache is located at the posted co-ordinates. But read the description before going there to get it, you will need some information to sign this log.

Letterbox caches are a bit of a rarity. With less than 40 in the state of Victoria at the time this cache was placed it's not something you come across everyday. However it is a nice little statistic to achieve 5 different types of cache finds in a day and so this Letterbox cache joins the team of the Harrietville 5.

Letterboxing pre-dates geocaching by over 140 years, it began in Devon, England in 1854. You can read more about letterboxing here.

I have found that there seem to be quite a few "Letterbox caches" out there that are "Letterbox caches" in name only. This one isn't. This one is a proper letterbox cache, but to gain access you will need to be a good postman and know the Harrietville postcode. The Harrietville postcode is 3 _ _ _.

Like a proper letterbox cache there is a stamp inside for stamping your personal log book (if you have one), this stamp is NOT an item intended for trade so please leave this in the cache! This cache is placed a short way along the Bon Accord track, which leads up to the razorback track. The razorback joins Mt Hotham and Mt Feathertop and is one amazing walking track! It is a pretty steep ascent from here up to the razorback though and should probably be attempted only by experienced hikers who are well prepared.
