MMCC Productions welcomes you to the premier screening of the first in this series, The Reel Hollywood. Time to open your mind and unlock your imagination as we transport you to another place... Roll the titles...
The location is Linacre Reservoir, the setting is Hollywood and you are walking away from the regular Boulevard Of Dreams and up into the hills overlooking this sea of stars shining below (reflecting at night time anyway, although recommend searching during the day!)
This cache celebrates the very essence of movies and film-making, from the first 16 lens camera used to see if a horse did have all its legs off the floor at the same time when galloping, to the introduction of moving plates, celluloid, colour separating, sound, full colour recording, then in later years we have moved on to 3D and digital recording. The original films were often only a few minutes, with several shown together in one sitting, but as they grew to the feature films we know today the amount of film to show in a cinema was so long it often came in several film reels which needed joining together at the cinema onto one big reel. Sadly this method has disappeared recently although the newer digital films do give a clearer picture without those flickers of hair or scratches on the film. The films now come on small digital discs and the huge film reels and iconic round tins have become a thing of the past.
The cache is about 20 metres off the main path, straight up through a rather steep undergrowth-free clearing. It is camouflaged under some twigs, at ground level behind a trunk, but which one? It has been replaced slightly further up the slope than the original placement, as the fir tree seems to be a bit of a den now, with little cover around the trees. It is now on the next tree up the slope, surrounded by low branches around the base of the tree, under a few twigs. Be aware there are a few brambles around at most of the year, so be especially careful on the way back down for trip hazards. Watch for flies too! Tree cover here can obscure the coordinates a little so use the clues. Please note that there is a car parking charge at Linacre Reservoirs of £2 for 2 hours. An annual pass is also available for those that like to walk there regularly. Remember to get the other cache in the series whilst you're here, MMCC (v). The Oscar for the first-to-find on this one goes to Diggemup.
The containers have changed over time. Sadly the original large metal film canister had taken a beating from the weather over the first winter and so was retired. It has been replaced with a smaller plastic container, although I have still tried to keep the spirit of the film canister very much alive! Check out the photos of the original canister then-and-now. There is no longer any room for trackables, only a pencil and the unusual signing log sheet inside.
In the spirit of cinema I should throw in some trailers for other productions at this point, so check out the sequels to this multimedia saga, look for the extra clues in each one and these 7 clues will give you the location of the bonus feature of MMCC (viii).
Without further ado, the stage is set and you are the actors, so it's Lights... Camera... Action
There are now all 7 standard caches released in the MMCC series, make sure to hunt for these too if you plan to get the full set and the bonus cache (with souvenir!). All the clue codes for the bonus are written or printed somewhere about the cache containers and are in the format of 'i = 1' or 'ii = 2' etc. (The real clues are not actually 1 and 2 though!).
