AMI-S #1 glaciazioni e anfiteatro Traditional Cache

AMIchace è un gruppo di cache nato con l'idea di far conoscere la storia del territorio dell'Anfiteatro morenico di Ivrea e del Canavese.

Questo cache è dedicato alla nascita dell'anfiteatro morenico. Da questo punto è possibile vederne quasi totalmente l'estensione godendo anche di un sito di eccezione: La Parrocchiale di San Michele arcangelo di Brosso

AMIcache is a group of caches born to popularise the history of the area of the morenic amphitheatre of Ivrea and Canavese.

This cache is dedicated to the birth of the amphitheatre. From this point is possible to see it almost totally while being near an important building: the Parrocchiale of San Michele Arcangelo of Brosso.

L'anfiteatro Morenico di Ivrea

Con una superficie di 505 km²2 l’AMI è il terzo anfiteatro morenico delle Alpi Italiane, dopo quelli del Garda e del Verbano.
È sempre stato considerato dai geologi un ottimo terreno di studio per la sua morfologia molto marcata.

Sono evidenti nel territorio molti elementi che raccontano della vita e dell'attività del ghiacciaio: dalle morene (la Serra morenica è lunga circa 20km, vedi earthcache GC6NWBC) ai laghi di origine glaciale, alle , alle rocce che presentano segni dell'abrasione e dello scorrimento del ghiacciaio.

Questo cache è dedicato in particolare alla struttura esterna dell'Anfiteatro e alla sua vista d'insieme, frutto, secondo le ultime indagini, di circa 10 glaciazioni distinte che l'hanno strutturato attraverso l'accumulo di sedimenti trasportati e deposti in un arco di tempo che va da circa 900.000 anni a 19.000 anni fa.

Parrocchiale di San Michele arcangelo

Il cache si trova fisicamente sulla piazza della Parrocchiale di San Michele arcangelo, la cui presunta costruzione risale intorno all’anno mille, è il più vecchio della vicaria e della vallata. Si dice che l’edificio sia sorto sulle rovine di un preesistente tempietto romano dedicato al Sole. Se ne hanno notizie certe dal XIV secolo, fu consacrata nel 1545. Fu definitivamente trasformata nel XVI secolo in un edificio di stile gotico rustico e ancora ampliata nel 1700. Nel 1907-8 fu realizzato un restauro con decorazione totale della chiesa; rifacimento del pavimento; rinforzo ai muri esterni e interni, tetto e campanile

With an estension of 505 km²2 AMI is the third morenic amphitheatre of italian Alps, after the ones of Garda and of Verbano. It has always been considered a great ground to study by the geologists because of its marked morphology.

In the area there are a lot of items that report the life and the activity of the glacier: from the moraines ( the morenic Serra is long about 20 km, see earthcache GC6NWBC) to the lakes with glacial origins, to the rocks which show signs of the abrasion or of the flow of the glacier.

This cache is dedicated especially to the outer structure of the amphitheatre and its overview, that is, according to the last studies, the result of 10 different glaciations which have created it through the accumulation of sediments carried and put down over a period that goes from 900.000 to 19.000 years ago.

The cache is placed in the square of the Parrocchiale of San Michele Arcangelo, which building dates back to year 1000. It's the oldest of the wide valley. The building has probably been built on the ruins of a roman temple dedicated to the Sun. There are certain information about the church from the XIV century, it has been consecrated in 1545. It has been transformed in a rustic gothic building, and still enlarged during the XVIII century. In 1907-8 has been realized a restoration with a total decoration of the church; the floor has been remade, the walls, the roof and the bell tower has been renforced.
