Geocache Description:

Genealogy is my other hobby and it has taken me to almost as many cemeteries as geocaching. A combination of the two seems like a natural fit. This cache will be part of an CONNECTED series of caches in cemeteries where I have a family connection. As always with cemetery caches, please be respectful, no night time caching allowed, and no searching for the cache if there is a service in progress.

The Family Tree series:
Family Tree #1: Mount Calvary Catholic Cemetery
Family Tree #2: Holton Cemetery
Family Tree #3: North Cedar Cemetery
Family Tree #4: Denison Cemetery
Family Tree #5: Muscotah Cemetery
Family Tree #6: St. Ann's Cemetery
Family Tree #7: Pioneer Cemetery
Family Tree #8: Jenkins' (AKA: Vienna) Cemetery
Family Tree #9: Saint John's Cemetery
Family Tree #10: St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery
Family Tree #11: Rochester Cemetery

This series of eleven caches is now spread over six counties in northeast Kansas. There are currently ten multis and one reverse wherigo in the series. All of the caches contain a clue that will help you find and open the final cache in the series. The clue has been written in multiple places on the log and/or on the container.

St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery is the parish cemetery for St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. The church is located in Mayetta, but serves the Mayetta and Hoyt communities.
The posted coordinates will take you to final resting place of my great-grandparents. Their oldest daughter and her husband, Glenn, are buried immediately to the north of my great-grandparents.
My great-grandfather was the oldest of eleven children born to a mother whose parents were Irish immigrants and a father whose parents were German immigrants. He served in the army during WW I and spent his life working on farms and feedlots in northeast Kansas. He lived until I was a junior in high school and I remember him coming to some of my games. He had a gruff exterior, but he adored my great-grandmother.
My great-grandmother was the fifth child of Scotch-Irish parents whose ancestors had been in this country since the 1700s. She had multiple ancestors who served in the American Revolution. She raised five children, one of whom was my grandmother. She was very active in the lives of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and was one of the sweetest women I have ever known. She lived to be 97 years old and just missed meeting her gg-granddaughter by one year.
I was very fortunate to have great-grandparents who survived until I was a young adult. They had a large garden and I spent many summers shucking sweet corn and snapping green beans in their yard while my mom helped her with the canning. Simpler times. I miss them.
