Rose Valley School, originally built in 1927, is a story of triumph and controversy. “During its life span it was a dream come true at its opening, then was a sore trial to early settlers during the depression years of the thirties.”
When the school first opened, it was a very happy association, but when the depression arrived and families couldn’t pay their bills, there was so little money for the school house. This caused local battles and fresh wounds between settlers. The community was able to get through this time, but when the idea for centralized schools was brought up in 1954, conflict was revisited and old wounds re-opened. Two years later the school was closed in 1956 and later demolished in 1958.
