Geocache Description:

We love watching the bats fly over our house every evening so when I discovered their day-time resting place I knew this had to be our first cache.

The grey headed flying fox is Australia's largest bat species and is at risk of extinction due to loss of its native habitat.  These bats are therefore protected by law.

PLEASE do NOT wander into the bush where the bats are roosting but observe from the path - it is an offence to disturb their habitat.

The poor bats can be stinky and noisy neighbours so have been left with only a few colonies.  They leave the colony at dusk and fly to feed on fruit, pollen and nectar at night.

This is not the most scenic spot wedged next to Burnt Bridge Creek Road but it is on the bike path from Manly to Seaforth and the bats and a pair of bush turkeys seem happy here. Visitors to Manly could hire a bike and cycle this way or catch the free 'Hop Skip Jump' bus from Manly to Balgowlah interchange (Stockland shops) where you can walk down Condamine Rd towards a small playground and the bike path. Nearest parking is at Pitt St off Balgowlah Rd.
