Geocache Description:

NOTE: Armchair logging of this cache is not allowed and logs will be deleted. --O

Back in 2005, master cache hider Crazy Aaron hid Ben Franklin phone home, a multi cache which required one to walk all the way across this bridge. That way my first experience walking across the bridge but not my last (although, all of them due to caching). When I was given the honor of a virtual cache, I thought this would be a great place as it isn’t a place one can put a traditional cache and it is a tourist place that I wouldn’t have visited if it wasn’t for caching.

Welcome to the Benjamin Franklin bridge. This is a suspension bridge that connects Philadelphia on the west side and Camden on the east. When it opened in 1926, it was the world’s longest suspension bridge at 1,750 feet (533-meters).

It has the distinction of being the only local bridge that has pedestrian walkways (yes two, one on each side). Only one of them is opened at a time and on my last two visits, that was the north side path.

Things you should know before doing this virtual:
-It is an urban hike of about 3/4 of a mile from the closest parking on either side of the bridge so expect to spend some time doing it.
-There is no cover on this trail so I’d suggest a hat.
-You’ll need to bring something to take a picture.
-Sign says: open to pedestrians and bicycles from 6 am to 8 pm.
-Walkway openings are subject to weather conditions. You can get an update by calling 856-968-3301.
-If the south side of the trail is closed, there is a pedestrian tunnel to get to the north side.

The posted coordinates will take you to approximately the middle of the north side of the pedestrian path. If the north is closed, there is an additional waypoint for the south side of the path.

To log this cache, you will need to do two things:

1) Post a picture of yourself, a personal signature item or your GPSr at the posted coordinates with some of the bridge in the background as well as the building with the flag on it. (example photo). If you come on the southside trail, make sure that the Battleship NJ is in the background. Photos of your face are not required. (example photo)

2) If you turn around, on the north side there is a box with a phone number, on the south, either of the signs is fine. Please email or message me this phone number.
