Hearst Castle is a National Historic Landmark and part of the California State Parks. It is the former west coast home of newspaper magnate William Randolph Hearst and was opened to the public in 1958, seven years after his death. Many daily public tours (fee required) are available of the estate and the collections of antiques and art. All of the tours now allow guests time to explore the impressive surrounding gardens on their own after the guided part of the tour.
HOW TO LOG THIS CACHE: The coordinates take you to the oldest piece of art in the gardens - Sekhmet, the Egyption goddess of war, which is over 3000 years old. If you prefer a friendlier statue, The Fairy Princess is a nearby gilded statue atop a fountain enjoying the ocean view. Take a photo with one of these pieces of art (including your GSPr or phone app if you can) and post the photo with your log... and enjoy your time on The Enchanted Hill.
If your tour does not take you past these locations, take a photo of the oldest piece of art you see on your visit.
