One of my favorite spots on the Planet!! I hope you agree.
I knew when I was honored with this virtual reward opportunity that Iceberg Lake was the spot for me. I was fortunate to work as the Employee Activities Coordinator at Many Glacier Hotel in 1994. My job consisted mostly of leading organized hikes on the various trails in the park. Of all the trails, Iceberg Lake was the employee's favorite for its non stop breathtaking scenery. I hiked it numerous times that summer and several times since while vacationing.
The hike itself is almost 10 miles round trip with about 1200 feet in elevation gain. The trailhead is easy to find at the northwest corner of the Inn area and the trail is well marked the whole way. The trail is quite popular so I always like to get an early start to enjoy the area as natural as possible. You are in Grizzly territory so take the necessary precautions.
As an optional side trip, at Ptarmigan Falls take the trail up to Ptarmigan Tunnel for a great view on the other side!!
