Geocache Description:

This easy trail is located within Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area near Pall Mall, Tennessee and features a beautiful 60 foot waterfall but its charm, in my opinion, lies along the journey there. Initially you will pass atop the falls, but will only hear it. Once you descend past the cliffs you will be treated to the elaborate rock shelters that were rumored to have housed runaway slaves giving the falls their name. The Sawmill Trail also offers a double feature: one of the most unique natural rock arches in the Big South Fork as well as the Slave Falls waterfall. The total trail loop is 4.2 miles, but you can go only to the falls via the short leg and return the way you came to reach your vehicle with a 2.6 mile journey but you will miss the delicate Needle Arch if you choose to do so without taking that extra spur. The natural trail is good for all skill levels & kid friendly. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash. There may be very little water flowing here during the late summer and fall months so plan your visit with that in mind.

Update: On 6/3/18 I ran into a black bear cub on the trail. Thankfully, moma bear wasn't offended. Wearing a bear bell wouldn't be a bad idea here.
