In Adinkerke werden heel wat geallieerde troepen gekantonneerd. In het dorp waren ook verscheidene medische posten geïnstalleerd, waarvan de bekendste het militair veldhospitaal in het domein Cabour was. De industrieel Cabourg (sic) uit Rijsel had het duinengebied aan het begin van de 20ste aangekocht van de staat. Hij liet binnen dit domein een landhuis bouwen. Vandaag de dag is domein Cabour een natuurgebied en waterwinningsgebied geworden. Tijdens de Eerste Wereldoorlog werd binnen dit domein, behalve pompinstallaties voor drinkwater, een militair veldhospitaal opgericht, als tegenhanger van het veldhospitaal L'Océan van het Rode Kruis die door Dr. Depage was opgericht in De Panne. Het Cabour-hospitaal stond o.l.v. Dr. Derache en Dr. Nolf. Het hospitaal was actief tussen april 1915 en februari 1920. Van 26 april 1915 tot 12 maart 1917 werd er een chirurgische ingreep uitgevoerd op 2652 militairen. Tussen 12 maart 1917 tot 17 februari 1920 werden 8246 mannen behandeld, waaronder slachtoffers van gasaanvallen. Ook elders in Adinkerke waren medische posten opgericht, waaronder een evacuatiehospitaal in een (nu verdwenen) loods nabij het spoorwegstation. Vanaf eind oktober 1914 bevond er zich langs de Kerkweg o.m. een triagepost voor gewonden. Vanaf eind september 1914 zou gestart zijn met een militaire begraafplaats in Adinkerke, als uitbreiding van het bestaande kerkhof. De begraafplaats lag ten O van het hospitaal Cabour en ten Z van het hospitaal L'Océan. De stelling dat de doden van de militaire begraafplaats van Adinkerke allemaal afkomstig waren van het hospitaal Cabour, blijkt niet te kloppen.
Op het kerkhof zien we verschillende zerken die verschillen van de normale militaire zerken. Eén van die zerken is toegeschreven aan een 17,5 jarige sergeant die stierf in Caeskerke op 02 mei 1916. Zet deze persoon zijn naam en voornaam om volgens het principe A=1, B=2, C=3, enz. Dit getal is A
