Assembly Instructions
- Download the cootie catcher. You may use the image on this page, here, print in color using the "Fit to page" option. If you find that daunting, a printable version may be retrieved from here, which I will vouch for contains no asbestos. (GC does not permit uploading a PDF, unfortunately.)
- Trim off the border so the result is square.
- Flip page over (white side up) and fold the corners back so the colors face up like so:.
- Flip over again and fold the corners back towards the center.
- Cut flaps down the center seam to make it easier to peek. This is optional.
Another angle of the cut seams. 
- Crease both ways.
- Power it up.
Calibration Exercise
- The Cootie Catcher is oriented like the geocaching logo. The stick figurine (yellow) is on the top-left, the flag (orange) is on the bottom-right.
- For each letter, you will always start with the Cootie Catcher open north-south (or "Up/Down"). That looks like this:
Colors shown (top-right, clockwise): Blue, Green, Purple, Red.
- After counting, you may end up in an east-west orientation that looks like this:
Colors shown (top-right, clockwise): Orange, Yellow, Brown, and Black.
- Okay, now suppose the instructions were:

- Start with the North-South open. Spell out Y-E-L-L-O-W. The southeast (SE) flap should be Green.
- Spell G-R-E-E-N The southwest (SW) flap is brown.
- Spell B-R-O-W-N. The northeast (NE) flap is blue. Lift it, and you should see the number 5 (coincidentally the number of attempts I made at placing this cache only to find the South Gongers really know how to pack 'em in [:-D])
- A is assigned the value 5.
- Start with North-South open: Spell out O-R-A-N-G-E The SW flap should be purple.
- Spell P-U-R-P-L-E. The NE flap is blue.
- Spell B-L-U-E. The northwest (NW) flap is red. Lift it, and you should see the number 6
- B is assigned the value 6.
