Geocache Description:

In 2009 I walked this track over to Waitekauri and then onto to Whangamata with a night in a tent. I enjoyed it so much I thought I would place some caches along the track so others can enjoy.

Link about the track

From road to this cache is about one and half hours. The track is not really maintained but is clearly defined in most places. There are some markers but no guarantee.

Park at the end of Reservoir Road and follow the track past the dam (GC673PD). After 10 minutes there is a crossing of the Tarariki Stream (GC677ZP9) and the track starts to climb (GC74XXZ). There are a few good viewing points on the way up and after passing through some pine trees there is an old garden hedge, a reminder of the home which once stood near by when a forty eight acre block was farmed here. Some of the post and rail fencing is still standing in the secondary growth (GC74XXB). Once through the hedge stay on the track which circles a lake. You will then arrive at an old hut (GC752XA).

Please note that after the "Old Homestead" cache to the "Old Coach Road Hut" the track passes near a hidden lake and an old mai mai. This may be active during the duck shooting season (May-June). Take extra care during this time of the year

From the hut cross the stream and turn right.
The track from here is used less but appears to have better markers albeit the old venetian blinds. It follows the stream and care is required because of the drop off.

Do the limbo and then follow the track a further 300 m there is a big old tree. (GC7VZ02).

Please take the usually precautions when entering the bush. Ensure you tell someone where you are going. While the track is easy to follow there are very few markers on the track. Some good bush sense is required on this track.

Please take your own pen.
