We are showing the 16 finalist films of the 2018 GIFF in one of the brand new Meeting Rooms in the NEW Central Library. You will have to bring your navigational skills as it is so new, we don't know where in the complex the room is located. Remember Meeting Room 0-13 and ask if you have to. At 2:00 pm we get the event started with a potluck coffee & cookies, so please bring some cookies, goodies or snacks. We will organize the coffee.
At 2:45 pm we will start the screening, which will take about 1 hour, with some time left to mingle and wrap up the event at 4:00 pm. The Library will close at 5 pm, so you have some time to explore.
The room has seating for 50 people available, so we will have an eye on "Will Attends" to make sure we stay within capacity.
Some info about the NEW Calgary Central Library

The New Calgary Central Library; 245million project; construction was completed on time and under budget. Planning began in 2004 and was finalized in 2011. Construction started in 2014 and started with the work over the active LRT track. The New Calgary Central Library replaced the former Calgary Central Library, built in 1963 and expanded in 1974. The first stage of construction was the encapsulation of a 135 metre (443 feet) long section of light rail used by the CTrain line, which emerges from a tunnel on the site. This part of the construction was completed in September 2015.
The facility is over 22’000 square meter or 240’000 square feet; and is spread out over four floors. The collection includes over 450;000 books. There is a performance hall and special spaces and programs for adults, children and teens. The design features an oval like form and an interior with a larger central atrium with a skylight. The building is elevated one floor above street level to accommodate the LRT track below as well as a public plaza.
The entrance is framed by wood-clad arches inspired by the shape of arched clouds made by Chinook winds in Alberta. The landscaping around the library and adjoining plaza consists of terracing inspired by the foothills the Canadian Rockies. The exterior is wrapped in a textured facade, with translucent fitted glass panels used to shield private study areas and clear glass to make public areas viewable from the outside.
The lower floors contain the library’s meeting spaces and activity centres, while the upper floors feature book stacks and a reading room.
At street level, one floor below the main lobby, is a 340-seat theatre, conference rooms, and a small cafe. The entire library features several environmentally friendly features, such as triple-pane windows to save energy on climate control and finishing made of low volatile organic compound materials.
