THE PUZZLE - Ciphers

  Down through the ages folks have developed ways to make a message that only people that knew the cipher could read - a secret message. Ciphers are often used in a geocaching puzzle to hide the final coordinates. There are lots of different ciphers.

  There are lots of encryptors/decoders for each of the different ciphers. There is a link in the nudge section that has a list of several different cipher encyptor/decoder on one webpage. ENCYPT is when you write the cipher and DECYPT is when you solve the cipher.

  PUZZLE

 NORTH = Mligs gsrigb urev uligb lmv wlg gsivv lmv ulfi

  WEST = 23-5-19-20 19-5-22-5-14-20-25 14-9-14-5 20-23-5-14-20-25 14-9-14-5 4-15-20 20-8-18-5-5 5-9-7-8-20 15-14-5

A BIG thanks to hostanut for letting me know that it was NOT South, it was West. Only took me almost a year and a half to correct that mistake. Big SMILE!!!!

You can validate your puzzle solution with certitude.

  We are in NC. It has rained. The logs WILL probably be wet! Unless someone has changed it, it is writ-in-rain paper. Write on it.

NUDGE - Ciphers

  1. Go to Cipher Tools.

  2. Start at the top with Affine. Change 'Encrypt' to 'Decrypt'.

  3. Copy and paste the one line of code into the big empty box below. Your decoded message shows up in bottom box.

  4. Can you read it? If not, click back to go back to the list in Rumkin Cipher Tools and click the next cipher down in the list and repeat # 2 & # 3.

  Beyond A NUDGE

  Since WEST in the puzzle are NOT letters, you should be able to look at the names of the ciphers in the cipher tools and know which one to use.

       NOTE: Need more help? Contact me. I LOVE to help and give nudges. :-)
