THE PUZZLE - Spider Web

As hubby and I were out hiding containers for this series, I spotted some writing on the ground. It said "N 35 39.892". What in the world could that be there for???? Then upon looking up I happened to spy LOTS of spider webs. One particular web was different. It seemed to be telling me something. I took a picture and took it home to study it out.

OH MY! Upon studying it out better at home and adding the north coords to it, it seemed to be giving me clues to another location for me to hide another container in my new series.

I looked at google earth and told hubby that I had solved the spider's puzzle and that we needed to go out and check the location to see if spider was right about it being a good location for another container.

Here is the picture I took.

P.S. Hubby and I went out and it was the perfect location. So can you solve the puzzle and find the container we hid?

You can validate your puzzle solution with certitude.

We are in NC. It has rained. The logs WILL probably be wet! Unless someone has changed it, it is writ-in-rain paper. Write on it.

NUDGE - Spider Web

I first came across the spider web puzzle when I read a geocaching book several years ago. It explained how to solve the puzzle. I found a spider web cache in western Virginia and solved it, but NEVER expected to find it. Then I got invited on a geocaching trip with a friend. I looked at our destination and to my surprise, in the area was the spider web puzzle I had solved. WOW!!!! I was VERY excited!!!

This puzzle is a radar chart.

The SPOKES are the lines going up and down through the circles and how many spokes there are depends on the number of letters in the message. This message has 25 spokes for 25 letters in the message.

There are thirteen CIRCLES going around this web. Each ring represents 2 numbers. So where a ring intercepts a spoke, the numbers are 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18, 20, 22, 24 & 26. If the line does not intercept a spoke, it is an odd number.

  Beyond A Nudge

So starting with the spoke going up in middle top, it is a 1, since it is between the center and the 1st ring. Going right to the next spoke, it stops at the 2nd ring, so it is a 4. The spider went directly to the right for the next spoke, so it is a 4.

So from the three spokes you have 1-4-4. Continue around the web determining the numbers indicated by the spoke/ring intersections.

There are two easy ways to convert your numbers to letters.

  1. 1 = A, 2 = B, 3 = C, etc. to get the message.

  2. Go to Cipher Tools and copy and paste your numbers and dashes in the "Letter Numbers" decoder. (Remember to change to decrypt.)

Use the north coordinates in the puzzle description and then do the math to the posted west coordinates.
