THE PUZZLE - Scavenger Hunt (Math)

  Sunshine had an event. Since they were in a big city, she decided it was going to be a scavenger hunt. She would divide the cachers who attended into two teams with whitedove and bigthunder as there leaders. The event started at 1 pm, meeting in a city park with a few refreshments. At 1:30 pm each team would leave with their list, reporting back to the park at 4:30 pm to calculate their totals. At 5:00 pm, they would announce the winning team and have a hot dog roast and of course, LOTS of caching stories from their afternoon adventures.

  THE LIST:

  1. Hours your team was on the scavenger hunt;

  2. Miles your team traveled;

  3. Signs your team saw;

  4. Cows and dogs your team saw;

  5. Caches your team found and signed log.

  After studying out their list, the two teams went in opposite directions.

  Each leader appointed one cacher to be in charge of looking for one certain item on the list and keep count.

  Whitedove's team consisted of whitedove, snowwhite, MistressMary, CatInTheHat, and CharlieBrown. They jumped in whitedove's car and headed out to the freeway heading to the state forest where sunshine had just placed a small geoart trail.

  Bigthunder's team consisted of bigthunder, littlebopeep, chickenlittle, cookiemonster, and kermitthefrog. They decided to walk around town passing caches, a museum, a library, a church, another park, etc..

5:00 pm scavenger hunt reports:

WHITEDOVE's Team

  2. We rode 10 miles to get to the state forest. Hiked 4 miles and then rode 10 miles back to park. TOTAL of 24 miles.

  3. Heading out of town and back we saw 66 signs and at the park we saw 12 handicap & 23 trail signs. TOTAL of 101 signs.

  4. After getting off the freeway, we spotted a field with cows. We each counted a different section and we totaled them all up. We got a total count of 161 cows. On our hike we passed 8 dogs. TOTAL 169 cows and dogs.

  5. We found and signed all 28 caches that sunshine had hidden on the trail. TOTAL of 28 caches.

BIGTHUNDER's Team

  2. We walked around town and walked 7 miles. TOTAL of 7 miles.

  3. There were 2 stop signs at every block. So we saw 22 stop signs. There were 46 handicap signs, parking signs, etc. TOTAL of 68 signs.

  4. We saw no cows, but we did go to a dog park and counted 28 dogs. TOTAL of 28 dogs.

  5. We found and signed the log on 15 caches. TOTAL 15 caches.
