Panania Parkrun is a free, local, timed weekly 5km walk or run.
Panania Parkrun starts from this location so avoid it between 7am - 9am Saturday. Alternatively come and join us at Parkrun, its lots of fun, no pressure and has a great community feeling. https://www.parkrun.com.au/panania/
This is the first of FIVE geocaches along the Parkrun route. This is a concreted track that runs for 4kms around to the M5 at Henry Lawson Drive (and on further to join the bike path along the Georges River and through Lake Gillawarna). All Five Geocaches are within 2km so it would be a lovely stroll along the pathway. This pathway is well used by locals, riding, running, scootering and walking dogs. There are always people around but you should be able to "take a rest" at each geocache easily enough.
This series would be great for the kids to search for and they will enjoy the flat bike or scooter ride.
The first cache in this series is located in the Field of Dreams.
The Field of Dreams at Panania was built by local Norman Perry in 1986. Norm built the softball, baseball and t-ball fields, adequately called “Field of Dreams” himself using scrap metal and mesh, which he then opened to the public in 1991. Costs to improve the grounds were a continuous struggle for a pensioner and through Norm’s amazing contribution to the community, his hard work and labour, coaching and engaging others in the sport, the "Field of Dreams" received an upgrade of the facilities in January 2010
Throughout the years, Norm helped thousands of people and disability groups engage in society through the self-esteem building, integrity, skills and social interaction that his coaching of the sport involves.
Regrettably as Norm aged the facility was not able to stay functioning and the final sporting facilities were removed by the local council in 2018. There is a lovely open grassland which floods in heavy rain and the area is still well used by locals.
