Geocache Description:

Ettalong Beach on the NSW central coast is a popular holiday destination.

Ettalong means drinking place in the language of the Guringai nation.

Sadly due to European colonisation in the 18th century, this population was decimated by diseases such as small pox brought by the colonists.

Governor Phillip visited here in 1788 and 1789.

Formal European settlement occurred in 1824 by James Webb.

To build the colony, many people burned shells in the area for the lime.

Boat builders of the Brisbane Water area flourished between 1829 until 1950s.

In 1888, the railway extended to Woy Woy making Ettalong more accessible.

Fishing, boating, picnicking, swimming and oysters are  all enjoyed by visitors to the shore.

There are many streets named of fish in the area to honour this heritage, for example: Flounder, Flathead, Schnapper and Whiting.

There is a picturesque ferry ride that services crossing between Broken Bay and Pittwater to Palm Beach.

Cache is inspired from the swag won from this year’s Christmas crackers. Always a good pun joke and game.

If you visit the ferry, the cache is not far.

Replaced original cache with better camo, please put back in position as found to ensure it’s not muggled.

What is your favourite Christmas Cracker joke to share?
