Time to share what I have learned. Thanks go out to nrobin and the
Wind and Waves cache in Washington State, for the education.
There is more than one way to get you where you want to be. Try
looking at your GPS a little differently than you have in the past.
Take along a magnetic compass and calculator if your math is a
little rusty.
We will start this hunt at N21*18.415, W157*51.540. Call this
the cornerstone. When you find this spot you will need to get down
and count the number of A’s you find, let’s call that
“X.” Multiply (X by 4). Your final location’s
longitude is offset by (X x 4) meters West from the
cornerstone.
Next step: While standing on the cornerstone location, travel
122 meters in the direction 145 degrees. Here you will find a
plague near the entrance to a restricted area. You will need to
know the year this place was built, call this “Y”. Just
a few meters SE of this plague you will find a stand of palms.
Count the numbers of trees in this grouping. We will call this
“Z”. To get the latitude offset for the final location
you will need to subtract 925 from the year built, divide your
answer by the number of trees. The final location’s latitude
is offset by this number of meters North of the cornerstone.
To recap the final location is offset by ( X x 4) meters West
and (Y less 925)/Z meters North of the cornerstone.
When you have determined and found the final location, you
should sit down and take a rest. Off to your right about 3 meteres
away you will find the cache. You are looking for a mini cache that
contains only a log book. If you have been using a compass to get
you here, you may be able to use your compass in a different way
when you get very close to the cache. Ever use a stud finder?
You should be able to spot the cache from where you sit, which
is a good idea as this can be a very busy area. Be cool, try to
find the cache while sitting down without being noticed. If you see
the cache but can not retrieve it without being seen, try from the
other side.
