Geocache Description:

The Series

The Holymoorside & Walton Parish Boundary Stones were erected as part of celebrations to mark the new millenium. There are eight stones on the parish boundary, each roughly corresponding to eight compass points , with a central obelisk stone at Holymoorside Village Hall. The stones are inscribed with two words in addition to the compass point the stone marks. These words combine to form a short poem. An annual tradition called "Beating the Bounds" takes place on the first Friday of each August, where members of the parish participate in a walk around the parish permieter. The caches are positioned a short distance from each boundary stone, as some of the stones are not in suitable locations to hide caches in the immediate vicinity of them.

Be sure to note down the "bonus number" within each cache, as this is essential for calculating the co-ordinates of the bonus cache for this series.

More information about the boundary stones can be found on this website

Please note, that whilst the majority of this series's caches are hidden in rural areas, due to the increase in rural crime please do not attempt these caches at night or in late evening to avoid causing unnecessary concern to local residents. Ensure you have appropriate footwear and clothing - not all of the caches are a simple walk from the car.

The Cache

Located in a field a couple of hundred yards from the oldest freestanding chimney in Britain, Stone Edge Cupola, this cache is hidden half a mile south of the South Boundary Stone, which stands at the side of Darley Road in a position which is not suitable to place a cache.

As with the majority of caches in this series, this is a small clip lock container with room for small swaps and is hidden at the side of the footpath. Parking is available on Belland Lane and the cache is about a ten minute round walk from the car. It is advisable to follow the path by the cupola. Wellies or walking boots are recommended as the approach to ground zero from the north is relatively overgrown in the summer months and can get quite waterlogged.

Please rehide the cache carefully so it is not visible from the path.
