Geocache Description:

The Series

The Holymoorside & Walton Parish Boundary Stones were erected as part of celebrations to mark the new millenium. There are eight stones on the parish boundary, each roughly corresponding to eight compass points , with a central obelisk stone at Holymoorside Village Hall. The stones are inscribed with two words in addition to the compass point the stone marks. These words combine to form a short poem. An annual tradition called "Beating the Bounds" takes place on the first Friday of each August, where members of the parish participate in a walk around the parish permieter. The caches are positioned a short distance from each boundary stone, as some of the stones are not in suitable locations to hide caches in the immediate vicinity of them.

Be sure to note down the "bonus number" within each cache, as this is essential for calculating the co-ordinates of the bonus cache for this series.

More information about the boundary stones can be found on this website

Please note, that whilst the majority of this series's caches are hidden in rural areas, due to the increase in rural crime please do not attempt these caches at night or in late evening to avoid causing unnecessary concern to local residents. Ensure you have appropriate footwear and clothing - not all of the caches are a simple walk from the car.

The Cache

Parking is available for one or two cars in a layby near the junction of Longside Road with Syda Lane. The West Boundary Stone is immediately in front of you as you enter the field through the gate. This field can occasionally be home to some cattle so exercise caution. This cache is a straightforward park and grab at the top of Holy Moor, where you can enjoy exceptional views on clear days as far as Lincoln Cathedral, and stunning sunsets over the dramatic moors.

The container has room for swaps and contains a pencil, please ensure you replace the cache and camouflage items well so it is not exposed.
