Higgs@10 #4: Particle Detection Traditional Cache

This geocache series was placed on occasion of the 10th anniversary of the discovery of the Higgs boson. We want to show you the beautiful countryside around the CERN Meyrin site and tell the story of this discovery with this Geocache series containing of five traditionals.

What is a particle detector?

• A particle detector is a device that detects particles and measures their properties.
• A particle detector can only detect types of particles with a sufficiently long average lifetime.
• Particle detectors use magnetic fields to determine the electric charge and the momentum of particles.
• We identify particles based on the unique patterns they leave in different layers of detector components.
