De Amsteltram, lijn 25. Van Amsterdam Zuid naar Uithoorn Centrum.
Deze tram-cache serie brengt je langs de 3 (nieuwe) tramhaltes in Uithoorn. Het is een leuke wandeling van 2.5 km (enkele reis), maar ook goed te doen op de fiets of met de auto. Of, als het weer tegen zit, je geen zin hebt op te lopen, je auto een lekke band heeft, of je het gewoon leuk vindt… met de tram!

Een stukje geschiedenis
Op 1 mei 1915 werd de spoorlijn Bovenkerk – Uithoorn geopend. Tot september 1950 toen de lijn werd gesloten voor het reizigersvervoer. Tot mei 1972 bleef de lijn nog wel in gebruik voor goederen verkeer, maar nu met diesellocomotieven. Na 4 jaar zonder treinverkeer werd de lijn tussen 1976 en 1981 weer gebruikt als aanvoerlijn voor materieeluitwisseling voor de nieuwe Schiphollijn. En tenslotte werd de lijn nog tot 1986 gebruikt voor het vervoer van materieel dat de NS liet slopen door het sloopbedrijf Koek in Mijdrecht. Het grootste deel van de spoorlijn werd in 1987 opgebroken.
Op een deel van de van het tracé, tussen de voormalige stations Bovenkerk en Legmeerpolder werd de nieuwe baan van de Amstelveenlijn (tram) gerealiseerd. Deze werd geopend in september 2004 en verbindt de (toen nieuwe) Amstelveense wijk ‘Westwijk’ met Amsterdam.
Bij het maken van de plannen van de Noord-Zuid lijn (Amsterdam) werd rekening gehouden met de mogelijkheid om deze metro lijn te verlengen naar Amstelveen. Toen in 2012 definitief werd dat er geen metro naar Amstelveen zou komen werd besloten om de Amstelveenlijn om te bouwen tot hoogwaardige tramverbinding tussen Amstelveen Westwijk en station Amsterdam Zuid. Zodat er een goede aansluiting was op de Noord-Zuid lijn. Na het realiseren van de hoogwaardige tramverbinding in 2020 werd de tramlijn doorgetrokken naar het centrum van Uithoorn. De Uithoornlijn was geboren en werd in juli 2024 in gebruik genomen.
Samen vormen de Amstelveenlijn en de Uithoornlijn de Amsteltram. De eerste regionale tramlijn in deze regio. In een half uur reis je van Uithoorn Centrum (aan de Amstel) naar station Amsterdam Zuid.
Halte Uithoorn Centrum
De halte ‘Uithoorn Centrum’ was in de tijd van de spoorlijn ‘station Uithoorn’, tot op de dag van vandaag duidelijk herkenbaar aan het stationsgebouw. Station Uithoorn lag aan de spoorlijnen:
- Bovenkerk – Uithoorn
- Aalsmeer – Nieuwersluis-Loenen
- Uithoorn-Alphen aan de Rijn.
‘Het Spoorhuis’ is tegenwoordig een café-restaurant en Bed&Breakfast dat is gehuisvest in het stationsgebouw dat gebouwd werd in 1914. In het pand (een rijksmonument) zijn veel oude details terug te zien en is het karakter van een stationsgebouw goed bewaard gebleven. In de ‘voortuin’ van het spoorhuis heeft een oude rangeerlocomotief van de NS een plekje gekregen en ook de nabijgelegen spoorbrug (ook een rijksmonument) herinnert aan het spoorwegverleden.

The Amsteltram, line 25, from Amsterdam Zuid to Uithoorn Centrum.
This tram-cache series takes you past the 3 (new) tram stops in Uithoorn. It's a nice 2.5km walk (one way), but also doable by bike or car. Or, if the weather is bad, you don't feel like walking, your car has a flat tyre, or you just like it... by tram!

A piece of history
On 1 May 1915, the railway line Bovenkerk - Uithoorn was opened. Until September 1950 when the line was closed to passenger traffic. Until May 1972, the line remained in use for freight traffic, but now with diesel locomotives. After 4 years without train traffic, the line was used again between 1976 and 1981 as a feeder line for equipment exchange for the new Schiphol Line. And finally, the line was still used until 1986 to transport rolling stock that the NS had scrapped by the Koek scrapping company in Mijdrecht. Most of the railway line was broken up in 1987.
On part of the of the line, between the former stations Bovenkerk and Legmeerpolder, the new Amstelveen Line (tram) was built. It was opened in September 2004 and connects the (then new) Amstelveen district 'Westwijk' with Amsterdam.
When making the plans for the North-South line (Amsterdam), the possibility of extending this metro line to Amstelveen was taken into account. When it became final in 2012 that there would be no metro to Amstelveen, it was decided to convert the Amstelveen line into a high-quality tram connection between Amstelveen Westwijk and Amsterdam Zuid station. So that there was a good connection to the North-South line. After the high-quality tram connection was realised in 2020, the tram line was extended to the centre of Uithoorn. The Uithoorn line was born and was commissioned in July 2024.
Together, the Amstelveen line and the Uithoorn line form the Amstel tram. The first regional tram line in this region. In half an hour, you travel from Uithoorn Centrum (on the Amstel) to Amsterdam Zuid station.

The 'Uithoorn Centrum' stop was in the days of the railway line 'station Uithoorn', to this day clearly recognisable by the station building. Uithoorn station was located on the railway lines:
Bovenkerk - Uithoorn
Aalsmeer - Nieuwersluis-Loenen
Uithoorn-Alphen aan de Rijn.
Today, 'Het Spoorhuis' is a café-restaurant and Bed&Breakfast housed in the station building built in 1914. Many old details can be seen in the building (a national monument) and the character of a station building has been well preserved. In the 'front garden' of the railway house, an old NS shunting locomotive has been given a place and the nearby railway bridge (also a national monument) is a reminder of the railway past.
