This park, between Tracyton Boulevard and Dye's Inlet, offers beach access and Olympic Mountain views, as well as the WSU Extension Master Gardener Demonstration Garden. I hope you have time to look around!
The fun of leaving messages in secret hiding places goes back in history, long before geocaching. Walking directions were shared and conspirators would leave notes for each other. Enthusiasts have taken this idea further by sharing locations and collecting their finds. Like geocaching, special logbooks and stamps are part of the activity and proof of the find. Letterboxers carry their own logbooks and personalized stamps. They mark their find with the stamp provided in the cache and leave their own marks in the cache log.
In this spirit, here are the written Letterbox walking directions:
From the posted coordinates at the "J.A. & Anna F. Smith Childrens Park" sign, head west down the 14 stairs, then along the trail through the woods and over the marsh. Walk all the way to the scenic T, then turn right. Head north along the pavement past the restroom (closed OCT 1-MAR 31) to the switchback. Carefully navigate the steep path to the end of the pavement. The letterbox is hidden under the southeast corner of the viewing platform. Look for the "signs" at the switchback. Use the 4 digit code, collected from your UV light observations, for the hidden lock combination.
For geocachers, use the posted coordinates for a waypoint projection calculation. From the posted coordinates at the sign pictured above, calculate 345 feet at a bearing of 324 degrees, for the approximate final cache location. Use the obvious paths to navigate to this spot.
Here is the souvenir for finding geocaches on Leap Day 2024:

In the spirit of Team Geo-Ducks, there are several new local Silverdale caches with a variety of types, sizes, and attributes, for those who have already found everything around here and who don't have travel plans for finds elsewhere! Try to resist the FTF or February logging, IF you will be needing to find this one after work on Leap Day!
Leap Day Series:
#1 Traditional (re"place"ment), 1.5/1.0 Micro
#2 Multi-cache, 2.0/1.5 Small
#3 Letterbox (revamp), 1.5/1.5 Small
#4 Wherigo, 2.0/2.0 Other
#5 Mystery, 2.5/1.5 Regular

Did you notice the UV light required attribute? You will need this for the lock.
Did you leave the stamp for the next letterbox finder?
